Google has made "Meet" free for everyone & also has quietly turned down Hangouts recently. The suite of communication products by Google are now much better suited against the competition.
Yeah, as rightly stated above Google meet is a better competitor to Zoomas meetings are secure. Audio and video streams are specially encrypted, so they're yours and no one else's. Broadcasting is a breeze. You can share your meeting with up to 100,000 viewers! Recording is easy, too. Plus one can also share their screen, use multiple devices, and more.
Thanks for leaving the comment. I agree to the point that Zoom had far better feature set and UX when compared to Zoom. But some of it has been because the positioning by Google has not been correct. They were not focused enough with Hangouts or Meet. Over time I believe the experience will catch up to Zoom and might be better in some cases (free video calling for everyone). https://www.theverge.com/2020/4/29/21240942/google-meet-free-zoom-response-microsoft-teams-features

Did you ever use GMeet? I used to teach a full course at my university. The features are lightyears far from those of zoom and ms teams...
